Word Vomit

One thing I really find annoying is that whole "Ja" thing. A lot of Christians are starting finish their emails, blog posts, myspace comments with "Ja". If you don't know "Ja" is a Jamaican word for God... Ja... I kinda started to notice people using it when P.O.D. started to get really hot. They use "Ja" a lot. And I just find it really annoying. It's almost like it's not cool to say God or Jesus or Holy Spirit... no, no, no, Ja is cool sounding. I find it really silly to hear "Ja man" come out of the mouth of some white kid in middle suburbia. And most people don't know what "Ja" means. It's a cop out. I got news for some people. There is no such thing as a "Ninja Evangelist"! Who's the salt of the earth? Who a light in this world?

It's like the other day I saw these wristbands at a Christian book store called "Witness Bands"... Really? I guess if I'm wearing a wristband that has a cross etched on it that I must be "witnessing". Or look at it for the other side. Let's say I'm not saved and I've never heard of Jesus. I'm walking down the street and I see this guy or girl wearing a "witness band". All of the sudden I'm overcome with conviction and I just know that there's this guy named Jesus who came and died for me! Come on people! Now I'm not trying to dis Christian fashion, though I do have to say that there are a TON of cheesy shirts out there... But if you actually think you're being a witness for Christ by wearing a wristband with a cross that is a blatant rip-off of the Independent (Skate Boarding Co.) cross, then I would argue that you haven't been reading you're Bible.

Bottom line is you have to at some point open your jaw and flap your tongue around and make sounds that we call words. If not, you may as well be telling your friends, family, co-workers and all the strangers you see who don't know Jesus, "Go to Hell!"

Ja (Hehe)

I had no idea people where using Ja. I agree with you. I'd type more but Buddy is in my lap and keeps hitting the keys.

Ooh... I could go on and on about this and other things as well. It's like the whole WWJD "movement".

I see what you're saying. The Ja thing is annoying! The witness bands though...maybe someone would ask "hey, what's that all about?" and it might bring up a conversation that normally wouldn't have an opportunity to arise. (like with a stranger on a bus, for example- most people wouldn't just start preaching or talking to them...) you never know! ;-) I know I was asking what those Lance Armstrong "live strong" bands were when everyone was wearing them. (I'm Joy's blog friend, Marisa, by the way..just wanted to comment! PS- She directed me to some of your music and it's really good! I think it's awesome what you guys are doing.)
